7 Packing Tips to Protect Your Cargo in Transit
Cargo is lifted, stacked and moved many times between the supplier and your door. Packing well is the cheapest insurance you can buy.
- Use strong, double-wall cartons for heavy items
- Fill empty space with padding so nothing can move inside the box
- Wrap fragile items individually and mark boxes “Fragile”
- Put heavy items at the bottom and keep each box within a weight a person can lift
- Palletise large shipments – it protects the cargo and speeds up loading
- Seal boxes with strong tape and wrap pallets with stretch film against dust and rain
- Label every box with the consignee name, phone number and number of pieces (e.g. 3 of 10)
Avoid oversized empty space – you pay for volume, so a box twice as big as needed can double your freight cost.
